World Book Classroom:
Dramatic Learning

Dramatic
Learning, the premiere Web site in the World Book Classroom suite of
products, uses dramatic readings of plays to engage students actively
with a method that promotes standards-based learning, improves reading
fluency, helps struggling readers, and solidifies positive behaviour
trends in and out of the classroom.
The
Dramatic Learning site is fully correlated to
curriculum standards. The plays are organised by year level and can be
adjusted easily to suit your needs in terms of vocabulary, sentence
structure, and points of emphasis.
Additionally, the site offers a wealth of content built around the plays, including:
• Activities and lesson plans related to the play
• Mini-inquiry projects that engage students in research and presentation
• Monologues and skits for individual and small group practice
• Play starters, to get students writing their own scripts
• Printable posters and programs
Site
author and classroom theater pioneer David Almeida, Ed.D., writes, "The
number of children who will benefit from the vision and the work that
so many at World Book have put into this project is simply uncountable.
Thousands of teachers world-wide will be able to see the power of this
pedagogy at work; and when they're ready to step up and try it out,
World Book will be right there with the materials and assistance to
help them get going."
